Make it Matter

In Portview, we have a mantra that makes up the spiral of our professional DNA – ‘make it matter’.  It’s what drives us to make decisions and form partnerships to ensure we make a positive difference to employees in a meaningful way that truly matters.

Having this meaning-rich approach in the workplace helps connect, inspire, and catapult employees into new realms of productivity and well-being.  It also means that strategies are ethical and in turn creates a place where people love to work.  If you meet any of our team for example, you will quickly see how passionate, enthusiastic and proud they are to work in Portview and how they feel valued not only as a single team, but as individuals also.

‘Making it matter’ is one of the reasons we opted to become an accredited living wage employer, because quite simply, it’s the right thing to do. For Portview, the living wage accreditation is an integral part of our range of ethical employment practices as it ensures that our employees, and those employed by our sub-contractors, are treated well and paid fairly.

The Living Wage Foundation is the organisation at the heart of the independent movement of businesses and people that campaign for the idea that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay. They celebrate and recognise the leadership of responsible employers who choose to go further and pay a real Living Wage based on the cost of living, not just the government minimum.

In 2016 the government introduced the National Living Wage which is currently £8.72 per hour for over 25’s, this wage is not based upon what families need to live.

The real Living Wage rates are higher because they are independently calculated based on what people need to get by. This is a fairer calculation and one that all employers should be looking at to ensure all their employees earn a wage that meets the costs of living, not just the government minimum.  Therefore, becoming an accredited member of the Living Wage Foundation fully embraces our mantra of ‘make it matter.

The process in becoming accredited is straight forward and simple, and the assistance from the team at the Living Wage foundation has been excellent.

There are many benefits for the business, the economy, and society. Therefore, I say to all business owners out there – ‘make it matter’. Become accredited and demonstrate your committed to equality and fairness.
